KD-X4 vs KD-MAX for MQB 5C Key Programming — What’s the Difference?

Both KEYDIY KD-X4 and KD-MAX support MQB 5C systems, but they work in very different ways.

KD-X4 is an all-in-one solution.
It can complete the entire MQB 5C key programming process independently, without any additional devices.

KD-MAX, on the other hand, must work together with KD-MATE.
KD-MAX is used to read the original key data, while KD-MATE is required for on-vehicle learning. The process cannot be completed by KD-MAX alone.

Important notes for MQB key programming:

• MQB function authorization (shared with MQB48 authorization) must be activated
• KD-MAX firmware and the KD Mobile App must be updated to the latest version
• 5C system: Supports both KD ZB smart keys and original keys
• 5D system: Supports original keys only (including second-hand original keys)
• A 5C/5D dedicated interface board or wiring solution is required to read key PCB data
• A service code must be generated before key matching

In short:
KD-X4 = all-in-one convenience
KEYDIY KD-MAX + KD-MATE = modular workflow for professionals
