This post explains the full process step by step, helping locksmiths and technicians complete Volkswagen 5C key programming and vehicle matching using KEYDIY KD-X4.
Before starting, make sure you have the following tools and requirements ready:
KD-X4 device (firmware version 1.53 or higher)
KEYDIY App V8.7.1 or later
KD smart key with KD circuit board
Original Volkswagen 5C key (for data reading)
8-pin adapter board with 5-wire connection
Vehicle with Volkswagen 5C/5D immobilizer system
Step 1: Wiring the KD Smart Key Correctly
The KD circuit board allows installation of the key PCB and supports data reading and writing.
Since the connector only has four pins, the fifth wire (wake wire) must be connected manually to the correct chip pin.
Follow the official wiring diagram carefully and ensure all five wires are aligned with the adapter board.
Step 2: Read Original Volkswagen 5C Key Data
Power on KD-X4 key programmer
Open the KEYDIY App and select IMMO Programming
Choose:
Volkswagen → 5C/5D Immobilizer System
Select Read Original Car Key & Generate Dealer Key
Insert the adapter board and start reading
Once completed, the key data and service code will be generated successfully.
Step 3: Generate and Write the KD Dealer Key
Place the KD smart key on the adapter board
Select KDZB Smart Key
Start the writing process
After writing is completed, restore the original key
At this stage, the KD key is ready for vehicle matching.
Step 4: Volkswagen 5C Key Learning via OBD
Connect the KD-X4 to the vehicle via OBD
Enter IMMO Programming → Volkswagen → Key Learning
Select Learn Two Keys
Follow on-screen prompts:
Place each key near the induction coil
Confirm service code
Complete ignition cycles
Both the original key and the new KD key will be successfully learned.
Important Note:
For 2024–2025 Volkswagen models, if key learning fails, you must unlock SFD before proceeding.
Step 5: Test the Programmed KD Smart Key
After learning is complete, test all functions:
Lock & unlock – OK
Engine start – OK
